Phyllotaxis
Phyllotaxis
Phyllotaxis is an original piece. It began as an exploration of Phyllotaxis, or the biological algorithm, that is used by nature to arrange the leaves or seeds in plants. Most notably the pattern of the seeds in a sunflower. Once I implemented the basic algorithm I began playing with two key variables, radius and angle, which determine the positions of the seeds and the overall size. At the respective "seed" location I draw combinations of outlined and filled ellipses in a controlled rotation translation. What is interesting to me is the way randomness changes the basic Phyllotaxis pattern to a spherical 2-1/2 D image.
The background is random, either a solid color or one of 4 types of linear gradients.
